'Ain's disease is real. Eyesight can cause other people to get sick, or even die. Of course the disease of 'ain is so dangerous and scary. Then what is the true nature of 'ain, how to prevent it and how to avoid it? Check out this short presentation.
What is 'ain's disease?
'Ain is a disease or disorder caused by eye sight. It was stated by Shaykh Abdurrahman bin Hasan:
Injury to another person
"One who looks, causes disturbance to what he sees" ( Fathul Majid Syarah Kitab Tauhid , p. 69).
Explained by Al Lajnah Ad Daimah :
Taken from the one who curses an eye if it hits him, and its origin is from the eye’s admiration for something, then the manner of his evil breath follows him, then seeks help to implement its poison by looking at the aid
"'Ain from the word' aana - ya'iinu which means: exposed to something from the eye. It originates from the admiration of the person who sees something, then followed by a negative response of the soul, then the soul uses the medium of the eye to channel the poison to those who see it "( Fatawa Al Lajnah Ad Daimah, 1/271).
Disturbances from 'ain can take the form of illness, damage or even death.
'Ain's disease is real!
After knowing the definition of 'ain, maybe some people will ask: "Ah, how is it possible that just looking at will cause disease?!", "How can a mere glance make someone die?". Or even some people deny the existence of 'ain because it makes no sense. That's why the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi Wasallam said:
The evil eye is true, even if something preceded the predestination, the evil eye preceded it
“That Ain really exists! If there is something that can precede destiny , really 'ain can do it” (HR. Muslim no. 2188).
From Aisha radhiallahu'anha , she said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
" In the past, Rasulullah Shallallahu'alaihi Wasallam asked me to be diruqyah to cure 'ain " (HR. Muslim no.2195).
From Jabir bin Abdillah radhiallahu'anhu , the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:
Most of those who die after God's decree and predestination are in the eye
"Because the most that causes death in my people after the destiny of God is ain" (HR. Al Bazzar in Kasyful Astar [3/404], endorsed by Al Albani in Shahih Al Jami ' no.1206).
And we must believe in this Prophet's news, that 'ain really exist and have happened. And of course it is very easy for Allah to make a disease like this 'ain. And it is evident that this disease is also witnessed by many people, namely when it is found that there are people who fall ill suddenly for no apparent reason.
The cause of the disease 'ain'
'Ain occurs because of hasad (envy; envy) for the favors that exist in other people. People who have hatred towards other people, then look at that person with a look full of hatred, this can cause the disease 'ain. Al Lajnah Ad Daimah explains:
And God has commanded His Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, to seek refuge from the envious, and the Most High said: And from the evil of the envier when he envies, then every sinner is envious, and not every envious person is an evil one.
"Allah Ta'ala ordered the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam to seek protection from jealous people. In the Qur'an: " … and from the ugliness of the jealous " (QS. Al Falaq: 5). So everyone who causes their ain disease is a jealous person, but not all jealous people cause 'ain "( Fatawa Al Lajnah Ad Daimah, 1/271).
A look of awe can also lead to 'ain. In a hadith from Abu Umamah bin Sahl, he said:
Abu Sahl ibn Hanif Balkar, was shaken by him and Amer Rabia seen, he said: He was easy for a white man, good leather, he said: I saw Amer ibn Rabia: What I saw as a day nor a virgin skin, the virginity is easy, and the Messenger of Allah The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said. Are any of you his brother? Have you not been blessed? For the eye is right, perform ablution for it.” So Amir bin Rabi’ah performed ablution for him, and he went easy with the Messenger of God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - with no problem.
“Once my father, Sahl bin Hunaif, was bathing in Al Kharrar. He took off the robe he was wearing, and 'Amir bin Rabi'ah saw it. And Sahl was a white and beautiful person. So 'Amir bin Rabi'ah said: "I have never seen beautiful skin like the one I see today, even beating the skin of a girl" . So Sahl became ill for a moment at that place and the pain got worse. This was also reported to the Prophet sallallaahu'alaihi Wasallam , "Sahl is sick and he can not go with you, O Messenger of Allah". So the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi Wasallam also visited Sahl, then Sahl told the Prophet about what 'Amir bin Rabi'ah did. So the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallamsaid, "Why does someone hurt his brother? Why don't you pray for blessings? Indeed, the disease of 'ain is true, so perform ablution for him! " . 'Amir bin Rabi'ah then performed ablution to be sprinkled with the water of his ablution to Sahl. So Sahl was healed and left with the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam "(Narrated by Malik in Al-Muwatha ' [2/938] authenticated by Al Albani in Silsilah Ash Shahihah [6/149]).
In this hadith 'Amir bin Rabi'ah looked at Sahl bin Hunaif with great admiration, thus causing Sahl to be exposed to 'ain.
Ibn al -Qayyim rahimahullah said:
And if the evil-doer fears that his eye will be harmed and harmed, then let him repel its evil by saying: O God, bless him
"People who look with admiration are worried that they may cause ain on the thing they see, so prevent that evil by saying: Allahumma baarik 'alaih " ( Ath Thibbun Nabawi , 118).
Ain can happen to inanimate objects
The scholars say that inanimate objects can also be exposed to 'ain. Inanimate objects that are hit by water can cause sudden damage or destruction. Wa'iyyadzu billah . In the hadith, the Prophet sallallaahu'alaihi Wasallam prayed:
Oh God, I ask You for forgiveness and wellness in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my money
"O Allah, I ask for forgiveness and safety for my religion, my world, my family, and my property" (HR. Abu Daud no.5074, authenticated by Al Albani in Sahih Abu Daud ).
"And why don't you say when you enter your garden" masyaAllah, laa quwwata illaa billah ". If you consider me less than you in terms of wealth and offspring " (QS. Al Kahfi: 39).
The scholars make this verse a proof that property can be affected by ain and can be diruqyah when exposed to 'ain. Ibn Kathir , may God have mercy on him, said:
Some of the predecessors said: Whoever likes something about his condition, his money, or his son, let him say: Whatever he wants, there is no power except with God - and this is taken from this noble verse.
"Some salaf say: people who are amazed at his condition or wealth or at his children, should say maasyaallaah, laa quwwata illaa billaah. This is taken from this noble verse "( Tafsir Ibn Kathir ).read:
How to prevent our views from causing 'ain' disease
Some scholars are of the opinion that to prevent 'ain from seeing something amazing in another person, say:
What God does not force only in God
/laa haula walaa quwwata illa billah/
However, this opinion does not have a solid basis.
From the perspective of the viewer, the hadiths show that to prevent 'ain is to tabriik (pray for blessings), for example saying: "baarakallahu fiik" (may Allah bless you) or "baarakallahu laka" (may Allah bless you).
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:
If one of you sees something in himself and his brother that he likes, let him pray for blessing, for the evil eye is true
"If one of you sees in his brother an amazing thing then pray for blessings for him, because 'ain is true" (HR. An Nasa'i no. 10872, authenticated by Al-Albani in Shahih An Nasa'i ).
And the most important thing in order not to cause 'ain disease in others is to get rid of jealousy towards others. Because jealousy is reprehensible. From Anas bin Malik radhiallahu'anhu , the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:
Do not hate each other, do not interrupt, do not contravene, do not envy, and be brothers, servants of God.
"Don't hate each other, cut off ties with each other, stay away from each other, hate each other. Be you brothers and sisters of Allah” (HR. Bukhari no. 6076, Muslim no. 2559).
And hasad on the blessings that other people get, means not being satisfied with Allah's decision and the distribution of sustenance by Allah. Allah Ta'ala says:
Delwoohana Abu Rony Mark Friends Gha Bhamuyen Sar Brekhari Harman
“And do not be envious of what Allah has bestowed on some of you more than others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned, and ask Allah of His bounty. Indeed, Allah is Aware of all things ” (QS. An Nisa ': 32).
The way so that we don't get hit by 'ain
The first thing that needs to be done in order to avoid the disease of 'ain is to avoid showing off, and adorn yourself with the nature of tawadhu '.
Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam bersabda:
"Indeed, Allah has revealed to me that you should humble yourselves so that no one is proud of another and so that no one is unjust to another" (HR. Muslim no. 2865).
As much as possible avoid mentioning wealth, business success, family happiness, as well as showing off photos of children , self-portraits, photos of wife/husband, and other things that can cause envy from those who see them. Or also that can cause excessive admiration of people who see it. Because the look of awe can also cause 'ain, as already mentioned.
Then among the efforts to prevent the disease of 'ain is to maintain and maintain all obligations and stay away from all prohibitions, repent from all kinds of mistakes and sins, also fortify oneself with some dhikr prayers, and ta'awudz (prayer of protection) that is prescribed.
Allah Ta'ala says:
وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيدْيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ
"And whatever misfortune befalls you, it is caused by the deeds of your own hands, and God forgives most (of your mistakes)" (Qs. Asy-Syuura: 30).
Allah Ta'ala also says:
َلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
"Remember, it is only by remembering Allah that the heart becomes peaceful" (QS. Ar Ra'du: 28)
Do the morning and evening dhikr, as well as daily dhikr such as dhikr going out/entering the house, dhikr out/into the bathroom, dhikr going to sleep or waking up, dhikr riding a vehicle, dhikr when going to eat, dhikr after prayer, and others.
Among the dhikr prevention of 'ain that can be read to children so as not to be exposed to 'ain is as in the hadith of Ibn Abbas radhiallahu'anhu , that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi Wasallam prayed for Hasan and Husayn with a prayer:
أُعِيذُكما بكلِماتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ, Mann Kِّl devٍn Whamَّةٍm
/ u'iidzukuma bikalimaatillahit taammah, min kulli syaithaanin wa haamah wa min kulli 'ainin laamah /
"I ask for protection for you with the perfect word of God, from the interference of satan and poison, and the interference of bad 'ain". Then the Prophet said: "Before your father (Prophet Ibrahim) meruqyah Ismail and Ishaq with this prayer" (Narrated by Abu Daud no. 4737, Ibn Hibban no.1012, authenticated by Syu'ain Al Arnauth in Takhrij Ibn Hibban ).
How to treat 'ain' disease
As for people who have been exposed to 'ain, the first thing to do is be patient. He should believe that 'ain's disease occurs by Allah's permission. Allah Ta'ala says:
“No calamity befalls a person except with the permission of Allah; and whoever believes in Allah, He will guide his heart. And Allah is Aware of all things ” (QS. At Taghabun: 11).
And he should put his trust only in Allah. He believes that the only one who can heal is Allah Ta'ala . Allah Ta'ala says:
وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّـهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَشِفَ لَهُ َّلَّا هُوَ
" If Allah inflicts a harm upon you, then no one can remove it except Allah Himself " (Surah Al An'am: 17).
If the person affected by 'ain trusts in Allah completely, then surely Allah will heal. Allah Ta'ala says:
وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ
"Whoever puts his trust in Allah, Allah will surely meet his needs" (QS. Ath Thalaq: 3).
And people who are affected by 'ain should seek causes that can cure 'ain's disease, including:
- Take a bath from the water used to bathe people who cause 'ain'
As the hadith of Ibn Abbas radhiallahu'anhum , the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said:
The evil eye is true, and if something preceded the predestination, the evil eye would have preceded it, and if you have washed, then wash it
“'Ain is true. If there is a thing that can precede destiny, then that is 'ain. So if you take a bath, use the bath water (to bathe the person affected by 'ain)” (HR. Muslim no. 2188).
- Bathing from the water used for ablution of the person who causes 'ain'
As mentioned in the hadith of Abu Umamah bin Sahl above. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam ordered Amir bin Rabi'ah to perform ablution and sprinkle his ablution water on Sahl who was affected by' ain. In another history:
"Then the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam ordered Amir to perform ablution. Then Amir washed his face and his hands up to his elbows, and washed his knees and the inside of his sarong. Then the Prophet ordered him to water it to Sahl " (HR. An Nasa'i no. 7617, Ibn Majah no. 3509, Ahmad no. 15980, authenticated by Al Albani in Sahih Ibn Majah ).
From Aisha radhiallahu'anha, she said:
The visitor was commanded, to perform ablution, and then to wash the
"In the past, the person who caused the 'ain was ordered to perform ablution, then the person affected by the 'ain took a bath from the rest of the ablution water" (HR Abu Daud no. 3885, authenticated by Al Albani in Silsilah Ash Shahihah no. 2522).
- Ruqyah syar'iyyah
As the hadith of Asma bintu Umais radhiallahu'anha , he said:
O Messenger of God, the children of Jaafar will be struck by the evil eye. Shall we seek protection for them? He said: Yes, if something preceded destiny, the eye would have preceded it
“O Rasulullah, Bani Ja'far are affected by 'ain disease, can we ask them to be diruqyah? The Prophet replied: Yes, it is possible. Suppose someone can precede destiny, that is' ain " (HR. Tirmidhi no.2059, Ibn Majah no. 3510, authenticated by Al Albani in Sahih Ibn Majah ).
There are several ways to meruqyah people who are affected by 'ain, among them by reciting the prayer in the hadith' Aisyah radhiallahu'anha , he said: "When the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam felt sick, the Angel Gabriel meruqyahnya with a prayer:
Bassem Allah Yeebrieki, Wimon kal da ya yashifiq, Wamana shar hassaddha zaza hassid, wazir kale zee ayeeen
/bismillahi yubriik, wa min kulli daa-in yasyfiik, wa min syarri haasidin idza hasad, wa syarri kulli dzii 'ainin/
(In the name of Allah who heals you. He heals you from all diseases and from the evil of the greedy person and the evil of the one who causes 'ain) (HR. Muslim no. 2185).
Or read ruqyah prayers from other authentic hadiths, as well as verses from the Qur'an. And all the verses of the Qur'an can be for meruqyah.
Such is the brief description of the disease of 'ain. May Allah Ta'ala protect us from the evils of 'ain's disease. Wallahu waliyyu dzalika wal qaadiru 'alaihi .
