Wealth is a blessing as well as slander (test) and a disaster when it makes someone far from Allah Ta'ala . The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:
َّنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ فِتْنَةً وَفِتْنَةُ أُمَّتِي الْمَالُ
Indeed , every ummah has slander (test), and slander for my ummah is wealth. ”(HR. At-Tirmidhi no. 2336, Ahmad [IV/160], Ibn Hibban no. 2470)
Wealth lovers and lovers of the world who prioritize the life of this world over the hereafter are the ones who lose and suffer in this world and in the hereafter. Wealth that is hunted greedily and neglects the purpose of the hereafter will make him die in a state of su`ul khotimah .
Al-Imam Ibn al-Qayyim told a story: “Some of the merchants told me that one of his relatives was dying. He was nearby at the time. Then people thought to him the word tayibah, but instead he said, "This item is cheap, this buyer is good, and this item is such ... such." to death." ( Al-Jawabul Kafi , p. 91)
Abdul Haq said: “It was said to someone I knew when he was about to die, 'Say La Ilaha Illallah !' Instead he said, 'So-and-so house fix this part and so-and-so's garden work there.' So then died." ( Al-Jawabul Kafi , p. 166)
The treasures and all the adornments of the world are capable of bewitching the human heart which is empty of faith in the afterlife. Until his death all the pleasures of the world still danced in his eyelids. The world's obsessive orientation always filled his heart as if he lived forever.
This condition is correct as reported in a hadith,
يَكْبَرُ ابْنُ عَدَمَ وَيَكْبَرُ مَعَهُ اْثْنَانِ حُبُّ الْمَالِ وَطُولُ الْعُمُرِ
" The son of Adam (man) is getting old and growing up with him two things: love of wealth and long life ." (Narrated by Al Bukhari no. 6421 and Muslim no. 1047 from Anas bin Malik radhiyallahu' 'anhu ).
From Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu 'anhu said the Prophet sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam said:
قَلْبُ الشَّيْخِ شَابٌّ عَلَى حُبِّ اْثْنَتَيْنِ: طُوْلُ الْـحَيَاةِ وَحُبُّ الْمَالِ
" The hearts of old people are always young in love for two things, a long life and the love of wealth ." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari no. 6420 and Muslim no. 1046)
Intelligent believers should focus more on pursuing the afterlife to build palaces in heaven and not be too busy building the life of the world, but forget to gather provisions for the hereafter. Precisely when he is smart to use the world's wealth with good deeds then this is the world's treasure that is blessed by Allah Ta'ala . They are intelligent believers in the hereafter. The older they are, the more eager they are to love the afterlife, even more so when they are given excess worldly wealth, they will be enthusiastic about using it for provision in the afterlife. The heart and mind are kept busy to seek salvation in the afterlife.
Dari 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud radhiyallahu 'anhu, Rasulullah shallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam bersabda:
«تأَكُّمْ مَالُ وَارِثِهِ أَحَبُّ َلَيْهِ مِنْ مَالِهِ» Qalwah: يَسُوُولَ اللَّهِ, مِا مَّنأَ عَحَدٌ الَّلََّ مَالُهُ َأَحَبُّ الإِلْهْه
" Who among you loves the property of his heirs more than his own property?" They replied, 'O Messenger of Allah! None of us loves more than his own possessions. ' Then he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "Indeed, his own property is what he has used (donated) and the property of his heirs is what he left." (HR. Al-Bukhari no. 6442)
May we not be bewitched by the pleasure of wealth from Allah ta'ala , to become members of the hereafter. Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Beware of the two groups of people, those who follow their lusts who have been deceived by him and and the people of the world who have been drowned by his world." ( Iqtidha'ush Shirathil Mustaqim p. 5).
Ibn Qayyim also said: "Beware of two types of people, the followers of lust who are enslaved by their lusts and the hunter of the world who has been blinded (his heart) because of the world (which he has achieved)" ( Ighatsatul Lahfan , II: 586).
